Ever wished there was a way to save your text messages and export them to your computer? If you have a Mac computer, you can access your text messages by forwarding texts from your iPhone to Mac, but if you have a PC, you don’t have this option. The Mac messaging app also doesn’t make it easy for you to export or save your conversations as a document on your computer. Today, we’re going to show you how you can use a program called iExplorer to save and move your text messages from iPhone to PC.
To save and export text messages from iPhone:
1. Download the iExplorer program.
You can download iExplorer for free from CNET.
2. Connect your device to your computer.
Using a USB cable, connect your phone to your computer. If a popup appears on your screen asking if you want to trust your computer, tap Trust.
3. When iExplorer opens, click Messages.
Launch iExplorer on your computer. Once the program starts up, click Messages to view your text message conversations.
4. Create a backup of your device.
If you don’t already have a backup of your device saved on your computer, you’ll be prompted to make one. If you are prompted, click Create Backup.
5. Choose the conversation you’d like to export.
From the panel on the left side of the messages window, choose the conversation you’d like to export and save. Click the conversation once to open it.
6. Click Export, then Selected Chat.
After selecting the conversation you’d like to export, click Export on the right side. From the dropdown menu that appears below, click Selected Chat to export that text conversation specifically.
7. Choose your method of saving.
Finally, choose the type of document you’d like to save your document as on your computer. You can choose to save it as a PDF, TXT, or CSV file.
That’s all you need to do to export a text message conversation from your iPhone to your PC computer. There are a couple other things you should keep in mind when exporting your conversations, so let’s go over those things next.
Notes on saving and exporting text messages
iExplorer allows you to view, export and save messages, but not send or receive messages from your computer.
While iExplorer is useful for exporting and saving your text message conversations, it isn’t a program that will allow you to send or receive messages on your computer.
You should still back up your device to iTunes or iCloud to save other data.
iExplorer is very useful for viewing, exporting and saving your text messages, we’d still recommend doing regular backups of your device either to iCloud or to your computer through iTunes. This will ensure that you have all your data saved in case anything happens to get erased from your device unintentionally.
Only go through this process on your own private computer.
We would not recommend doing this on a computer that is shared with others or for public use such as at your school or local library. Your text conversations will be saved to the computer, and if you don’t want anyone else looking at them, you should only save them on your own personal computer.
That’s everything you need to know about saving and exporting text messages from your iPhone to your computer. We hope you found this article helpful. You can also check out our articles on how to forward a text message and how to print text messages if you want to learn more!
